1tbsp – “Wish You Luck” (feat. kid on air)

Australian producer and songwriter Maxwell Byrne, who releases music as 1tbsp, returned this week with a head-scratching and hypnotic new single. "Wish You Luck" features Vienna-based artist Juanita Sohé Pereira Lillo, aka kid on air. The new track follows 1tbsp's 2025 EP Hotel Living, and the recent singles "Pink Dress" and "Soulseek," seemingly announcing a new era.

"Wish You Luck" thrives on peculiar tension: Byrne's spunky drum machine beat bristle against Lillo's apathetic vocals. "I'm finally alone," she proclaims during the splintering chorus, adding a harsh "ha ha ha" like she's a mean girl who just tripped her nemesis at the mall. "I instantly loved how the lyrics felt very mechanical, kind of repetitive and functional like a factory," Byrne said in a press release. "It really fit the themes I’m exploring in my next work."

The song comes with a video that Byrne co-directed with Elif Gündüz, with styling by Alara Koçman and Pereira. The visual follows Byrne and Lillo around in hyperaware state, fixated on germs and consumption. It's unnerving and fitting of our post-pandemic times.
