The last Star Wars trilogy to his theaters left much to be desired as many felt the story was ok and the villain, Kylo Ren was underwhelming, but with the success of it’s Disney+ spinoff series it seems like Lucasfilms is going to be putting together another cinematic three-piece of the Star Wars saga.
According to Variety, a new Star Wars trilogy is currently in development and X-Men writer/producer, Simon Kinberg has been tapped to pen the upcoming project that for now will bring back the franchises new stars, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. Truth be told, we could care less if Adam Driver returns (no shots). We’d rather Mark Hamill. Just sayin.’
Though we don’t know anything about what direction Kinberg will be going with the new Star Wars trilogy, best believe he’s got a lot of pressure to knock this one out the park as the fanbase has become rabid over recent decades about their beloved franchise. Luckily for him, he’s got a few good films under his belt, so there’s a good chance he’ll get things right… or as right as it can be.
Per Variety:
Kinberg is best known for writing and producing a number of “X-Men” films for 20th Century Fox, including 2006’s “The Last Stand,” 2011’s “First Class,” 2014’s “Days of Future Past,” 2016’s “Deadpool” and 2017’s “Logan,” before making his directorial debut with 2019’s spinoff “Dark Phoenix.” He’s worked with Lucasfilm on the Disney Channel animated series “Star Wars: Rebels,” which he co-created with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, and he consulted with director J.J. Abrams on 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Sources stress that Kinberg’s trilogy remains in early development, and it’s unclear when it’ll go into production. The filmmaker is serving as a producer on Paramount and Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” remake, which recently went into production with Glen Powell and Josh Brolin. He’s also attached as a producer on Paramount’s next “Star Trek” movie from director Toby Haynes.
May the force be with you young Kinberg because if you mess this up, man listen…
