Andrew Bird Says Mexican Music “Reaches” Him Despite Language Barrier, Vows “Rock and Roll Energy” for Mexico City Shows

Andrew Bird has opened up about his love of Mexican and Brazilian music as he prepares to return to Mexico City for a pair of orchestral concerts in October, saying music can transcend language even when he doesn’t understand the lyrics. “A lot of the music I listen to isn’t performed in my native language and I don’t understand what’s being said,” Bird told Mexican news site Marvin. “Brazilian, Cuban and Mexican music that I love, for example.
