As reported by Variety, the film is about a character called Sanders, who takes to the streets looking to take justice into his own hands hunting criminals. He becomes a social media sensation, with his public status as a hero contrasting with the opinion of a police chief, who sees him as a scourge to society.
The film will be written and directed by German filmmaker Uwe Boll, best known for 2005 video game adaptation Alone In The Dark.
The title of the film, as well as the broad subject matter, is reminiscent of the Batman franchise, with Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film The Dark Knight having the same name. Hammer was briefly attached to the role of Batman, being cast in George Miller’s cancelled movie Justice League: Mortal in the late ’00s.
Prior to his break from the industry, Armie Hammer had starred in a number of high-profile Hollywood films, including The Social Network, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Lone Ranger. In 2021, claims of sexual misconduct emerged from former partners of the actor, who has denied all accusations. After an investigation, Los Angeles prosecutors declined to bring any criminal charges against him.
Following the allegations, Hammer left many projects he was connected to. He dropped out of the film Shotgun Wedding with Jennifer Lopez, as well as TV series The Offer, about the making of The Godfather. His role in Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins was re-shot with actor Will Arnett.
Hammer’s next film will be Frontier Crucible, a Western co-starring William H. Macy. He recently made a podcast appearance, claiming the “worm is turning” on his career and that he is busier than ever.
