Becky Hill Made Us Believers at The Novo in Los Angeles

Becky Hill brought the Believe Me Now? tour to The Novo in Los Angeles and showcased why she is such a powerhouse performer!

Becky Hill is undoubtedly one of the most powerful voices in the electronic dance music scene. From her huge hits, including “Gecko” with Oliver Heldens, “Piece of Me” with MK, and “Lose Control” with Meduza, to her collaborations with Andy C and Chase & Status, Becky Hill has an abundance of top lines in her repertoire. Becky Hill’s vocal range and exuberance on stage when performing live make her even more impressive.

Having recently released her newest album Believe Me Now? and embarking on a tour of the same name we were so excited to have the opportunity to catch a performance as the tour made a stop at The Novo in Los Angeles. As expected, Becky Hill commanded stage, playing a set that spanned her entire discography, and masterfully curated the set to ensure the energy continued to grow as the evening progressed.

There was plenty of traffic on the way to Los Angeles, but as I got to the venue, my excitement levels grew.

The Novo is in a lively part of Downtown Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the Friday night show coincided with a home Lakers Game at Crypto Arena the next block down. However, after persevering through the traffic and the densely packed streets, I found parking in a neighboring lot. I caught up with friends before the show and got some food and drinks at Yard House around the corner. There were more than enough restaurants around the area to fuel up, and as soon as we finished, we went to get situated for the show.

Alicia Creti, who opened the show, was wonderful.

A vocalist and pianist, Alicia Creti belted out beautiful songs I was hearing for the first time in my life, and it reminded me of the beauty of discovering new music in a live environment. Although I did not know much about her prior to the show, by the end of her set, I had become a fan!

Once her set came to a close, it was time for Becky Hill. As soon as she took the stage, the crowd’s energy skyrocketed and persisted with the whole set. Becky Hill is an elite vocalist and songwriter with too many hits to list, but she masterfully crafted her set to include them all while also continuously raising the energy of the night. She started her set with some older tracks like “Piece of Me” and “Wish You Well” before ending with her higher-energy drum and bass tracks “Indestructible” with Andy C and “Disconnect” with Chase & Status.

Becky Hill is unlike any other artist I have seen live before.

Her authenticity shines through in her performances as she shares these special moments with the crowd, belting out hit after hit and commanding the crowd’s energy. The Novo is a medium-sized venue, but when I looked back from the front of the crowd, all I could see was a thick crowd extending to the back of the venue and up to the terrace, where audience members were dancing the entire time. The people who came to see Becky Hill resonated with her music, and the reciprocity of energy at the show was heartwarmingly mutual.

As the show ended, my group and I stuck around so one of our friends could try to get his vinyl signed. It is a lofty endeavor as artists have busy tour schedules and usually jet off to the next city as soon as they are off stage, but Becky Hill is unlike other artists. We located a nice gentleman from her crew and explained that our friend had brought his favorite record to the show for her to sign. He took the vinyl, disappeared backstage, and returned five minutes later with it signed!

This gesture was so kind, and it’s clear how much it meant to our friend Jeff. You can see just how happy this moment made him, and that’s what live music is all about! When it comes down to it, Becky Hill is not just a powerhouse performer and artist but a kind human being who has a deep appreciation for her fans and art.

The Believe Me Now? tour will wrap up with shows in Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal before it concludes at Terminal 5 in New York. I cannot recommend catching Becky Hill enough. You get the best of her and her entire discography, and who knows, maybe you can also bring a piece of merchandise and get it signed after the show!
