‘Black Mirror’ creator is working on “absurd comedy” crime thriller ‘Blackmere’

The creator of Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker, has unveiled the title and cast of his new series, Blackmere. Unveiled at an event for Netflix on Thursday (September 24), the show stars Paddy Considine, Lena Headey, and Rory Kinnear. Variety reports that the show’s synopsis describes it as an “absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller,” before revealing the details of the plot: “Tormented Detective John Blackmere (Considine) leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London to avenge his partner’s death and catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims.” A tongue-in-cheek advisory note said that the show “Contains blood and frowning.” Netflix also released the first images for the project, which can be viewed below. The series is scheduled for release in 2027 on an as-yet-unannounced date.
