In a new interview with i-D, BLACKPINK’s Rosé discussed the making of her upcoming debut album ‘rosie’ and her experience going solo. The K-pop star revealed that, ahead of inking a deal with Atlantic Records for her solo career, she had reached out to Taylor Swift for advice.
“I told her I’m such a huge fan and I just had some questions. As soon as she met me, she’s like ‘Spill, let me help you out,’” said Rosé, who shared that they met at an impromptu social hangout hosted by producer and long-time Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff.
“She gave me her number and she’s like, ‘Let me know if you have any questions.’ Who does that? Like, you’re Taylor Swift!” the BLACKPINK star recalled.
The K-pop singer added that she was especially grateful for Swift’s advice because “I was at a moment where I was drowning a little”. Rosé explained that the American singer offered her guidance on the logistics of establishing her solo career.
“She was trying to protect me. Me becoming solo, being independent, it’s not an easy thing,” she continued. “There are a lot of things I should be careful with, and she gave me a rundown on all the things I have to look out for. That was the coolest part – she’s killed it in the game, and she was kind enough to walk me through.”
Elsewhere during the interview, she also discussed her upcoming single ‘Number One Girl’, which she announced earlier today, saying that it’s a track she wrote about her struggles being in the spotlight. ‘Number One Girl’ arrives on November 22 at Midnight EST.
“I couldn’t sleep because I was so obsessed with what these people were gonna say about me and what I wanted them to say about me,” she told i-D of the song. “I was so disgusted at myself for it – I never wanted to admit it to anyone, I didn’t even want to admit it to myself.”
Rosé’s debut studio album ‘rosie’ is due out on December 6. At the time of publishing, the singer has released one single from the record: ‘APT.’ featuring Bruno Mars.
