Buku Ushers In a New Era with Debut Album, ‘Beautiful People’

1 hour ago 4

The ten-track Beautiful People LP shows that Buku’s classic sound has matured organically, reflecting his artistic process and future trajectory.

Bass music producer Buku, born Robert Balotsky, has been a mainstay in the electronic scene for over a decade, though his musical journey began in childhood as a drummer in local bands. He continued this passion by studying Sound Recording Technology at Duquesne University. This rich background explains his signature EDM style: a bass-heavy foundation driven by intricate drum patterns and layered soundscapes that fluidly bridge dubstep, trap, and other bass subgenres.

His debut album, Beautiful People, released on his namesake Buku imprint, leans heavily into powerful rhythms and highly technical sound design. Composed entirely of raw, original bass music, the project confidently signals a new era for the producer, who famously declared, “flip season is over.”

The LP delivers a cohesive, ten-song journey in which every song stands out. The experience opens with the cinematic “Intro (Beautiful People),” utilizing low end frequencies to establish the album’s dark atmosphere.

It seamlessly shifts into “Move That,” a high-energy dancefloor weapon fueled by rolling bass and rapid-fire percussion. From there, “26s” nods to classic hip-hop and trap with its grit and distorted sound design. The intensity pivots on “That’s Not You,” which pairs RHODE’s raw vocal performance and emotional melodic progression with an aggressive low end foundation.

Buku waxes eccentric on “Gatorade,” a quirky track driven by strange, syncopated rhythms. He then rallies back with “TiiGA,” a fierce, battle-ready anthem built around a roaring synth lead and marching drum pattern.

Wait A Minute” maintains the sub bass pressure while “Higher” brings the soaring festival energy laced with Jessy Covets‘ uplifting vocals. “Freaks” is full on rave nostalgia and warehouse vibes, and “Easy” delivers the perfect summary, drawing the journey to a close with smooth melodies and intricate drum fills.

Every single track reflects Buku’s current era and puts his elite production skills on full display. Beautiful People delivers on every front, making it a debut album that was undeniably worth the wait. To celebrate the release, Buku is hosting a special album listening party in his hometown of Pittsburgh on July 2, an event that area fans definitely shouldn’t miss.

Beautiful People is out now on Spotify or your preferred platform. Visit his official tour site to purchase tickets to the album listening event.
