Written and recorded earlier this summer over the space of a month, the album deliberately embraces the dystopian wildfire smoke that cloaked Toronto, where Pichonsky was living at the time, and which forced him into a house arrest situation due to his asthma.
He finished the record, which recalls bands like Bauhaus and was inspired by Omni and The B-52s, out in Calgary, where he went to sit for his new brother's puppy. "There was something about a young, naive animal who will live in a world/on a planet in decline that felt so unfair," Pichonsky said in a press statement.
Despite being city-made, nature is inescapable across the record, which concludes with "Water". The track breaks from the impellent, gothic post-punk sound of the preceding 10 tracks for a field recording of Lake Ontario wildlife.
This full-length release follows the Sewer EP, released earlier this year. The first single from the album, "Head Contact", is being released 22 Sep before the full set arrives at the end of October.
