Chappell Roan Takes Stand Against “Creepy Behavior”of Fans

Chappell Roan has spoken out against intrusive fan behavior. In a pair of TikTok videos, the pop star called out fans for stalking her family before setting reasonable boundaries for being approached in public.

In the first TikTok, Roan requests that fans think of her as a “random bitch” before they get “offended” when she says no to their requests for photos “because she has her own time.” She continues by taking them to task for stalking her family and following her around: “Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know. And she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume that she’s a good person, assume she’s a bad person? Would you assume everything you read about her online is true?”

Roan gets even more direct in the second TikTok by pushing back against the idea that “abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous.” She then establishes boundaries against “this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen.”

“I don’t want whatever the fuck you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” Roan says. “I don’t give a fuck if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just ’cause you see them online or you listen to the art they make. That’s fucking weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, okay?”

In the caption of the latter TikTok, Roan clarifies she is not directing her comments at a specific person or encounter, but simply telling “my side of the story and my feelings.” Watch both videos below.

This isn’t the first time Roan has opened up about being uncomfortable with her dizzying ascent into the spotlight. In June, she told a crowd in Raleigh that she was having a “hard time” because her “career is going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up.”

Last month, Roan said on The Comment Section podcast that crazy fans finding out where her sister works and parents live are making her want to “quit” music.

Hopefully, Roan’s fans will take heed of her pleas because her ascent isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Her 2023 album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, just topped the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart for the first time and reached a new peak of No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
