As reported by Deadline, Charli XCX has joined the cast of Sacrifice, the English-language debut of French director Romain Gavras. She will star alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa), Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Ambika Mod (One Day).

The plot synopsis read: “Sacrifice — loosely inspired by the Joan Of Arc story — tells the story of Joan (Taylor-Joy), a zealous spirit driven by a volcanic prophecy only she can hear, who is on a mission to save the world from a fiery reckoning.

“Along with her militia of mystical disciples, she hijacks a glamorous charity gala and takes three hostages: Mike Tyler (Evans), a beleaguered movie star desperate for redemption, Bracken (Cassel), the world’s richest man, and Katie (Mod), who’s just unlucky. They are forced on a journey through forest and fire until Mike faces the ultimate question: what would he sacrifice for humanity?”

Details of Charli XCX’s role in the film, which is now filming in Greece and Bulgaria, have not been confirmed.

Of the other supporting cast members that were announced, one is Swedish rapper Yung Lean, who will be making his film debut – and was a collaborator with XCX alongside Robyn on the remix of her song ‘360’.

Charli XCX now has six screen projects on the way, including Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and graphic novel adaptation 100 Nights Of Hero, which is led by Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Maika Monroe (Longlegs).

Elsewhere, XCX was confirmed as host and performer on SNL later this month.

She is also headlining Primavera Sound 2025 next year alongside Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter. And recently, following the massive success of her albums ‘Brat’ and remixed version ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’, Collins Dictionary chose ‘brat’ as their word of the year for 2024.
