Director Gregg Araki has called Charli XCX a “sophisticated cinephile” ahead of the release of their new film I Want Your Sex. The singer has been open about her love of cinema on social media, sharing her film-viewing habits on TikTok while also having a Letterboxd account. She will next be seen on screen in Araki’s film alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, and ahead of the movie’s UK release, the director has praised Charli as well as the wider younger generation of cinema fans. “Whenever we do screenings in New York, [the audience is] all these Letterboxd kids,” he told The Guardian. “And they’re very sophisticated cinephiles – Charli XCX is one of them! “They have very discerning taste in auteurs. It really gives me hope that this younger generation seeks out films that are not your standard popcorn multiplex movies.” I Want Your Sex follows a young man who lands a job for a renowned artist and provocateur, becoming her sexual muse, and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
