Charli XCX Shares “Wink Wink,” Smokes With Madonna, Teases Unexpected Album Feature

We'll have Charli XCX's Music, Fashion, Film in four weeks. Until then, the rollout continues to roll. Following the controversial creative turns "Rock Music" and "SS26" (and their non-album B-sides "I Keep Thinking About You Every Single Day And Night" and "Playboy Bunny"), a new single has materialized today.

In a documentary-style video on Instagram last week, Charli indicated that the plan was for some unnamed song to be the "last piece" of the rollout and that today's "Wink Wink" video was a pivot from that plan. Does that mean the other single will still be dropping or that "Wink Wink" is our final preview? I am not winking when I tell you I don't know. What I do know is that the "Wink Wink" video is out now.

It's horny. Duh. Obviously. Charli sings that she's not a bad girl anymore — wink, wink. She admits that maybe she fucked your dad, and she mentions that her friend Rostam told her that she dressed like a slut, so now she shops at APC. The text says that "people can change"; the implication says that maybe not. The song has the same guitar-based new wave edge as Charli's other recent singles, and the video, from The Moment director Aidan Zamiri, goes over-the-top with sex-drunk imagery. Experience it for yourself below.

On French TV this week, Charli revealed the new LP features one unexpected guest. "There is one collaboration on the album. But you won't be able to guess. I would bet money on you not guessing," she said. When pressed, she added, "You could have 1,000 chances and you still wouldn't guess."

In other Charli news: You may recall that she sang that "the dancefloor is dead" in "Rock Music" and quoted that line in her first interview of this album cycle, and that Madonna is returning to the dancefloor for new album Confessions II. Charli later told Rolling Stone, "That lyric is very much about my relationship with Brat, and my personal experience with that album. My husband runs a dance-music label. There’s been such a wealth of incredible dance/electronic-adjacent records that have been coming out recently, whether it’s Slayyyter or Underscores or PinkPantheress. Dance music is in an incredible place."

But just in case you believed they had beef, Charli and Madonna showed they're copacetic by smoking together alongside Connor Stories at St. Laurent's Men's Summer '27 show in Paris, then DJing together at the afterparty.
