Clairo’s On A Bunch Of Ryan Beatty’s New Album Sweet Fortune: “This Man Had Me Belt On A Song For The First Time”

LA singer-songwriter Ryan Beatty makes smooth, heavily orchestrated tracks that recall the most regal '70s pop, as well as the whispery bedroom-pop of today. Beatty came up alongside Brockhampton, and he has tons of collaborations on his belt. Today, he releases his new solo album Sweet Fortune, and he got some help from people who are more or less from the indie world. That includes Beatty's buddy Clairo, who sings on multiple songs and who says that she had to "belt on a song for the first time."

That quote comes from Clairo's Instagram story. In a post about the release of Sweet Fortune, Clairo wrote, "This man had me belt on a song for the first time and it was really scary." Beatty and Clairo have evidently been buds for a while. The first time that she performed her song "Sexy To Someone" was at a Beatty show in 2024. She sings backup on three of the album's 10 songs, according to the Tidal credits, and she and Leon Michels co-wrote two, the title track and "Delancey."

Beatty co-produced the record with Phoebe Bridgers collaborator Ethan Gruska. Musicians who played on the record include Hand Habits' Meg Duffy, Christian Lee Hutson, and Sam Gendel. I'm listening to Sweet Fortune for the first time right now, and it's a strikingly confident and pretty piece of soothing, delicate pop music. Hear it for yourself below.

Sweet Fortune is out now on Warner.
