CRUNCHi stopped by to reflect on her origins and deliver a taste of the future with an energetic guest mix on Paradigm Shift!
Belgium-born and Los Angeles-based artist CRUNCHi may be a relatively fresh face in the scene, but she’s quickly turning heads in the techno realm. Just a few years ago, she introduced her music to the world on the inaugural Speed Freak Vol.1 by Space Yacht with “BAD BiTCHES LUV TECHNO,” instantly claiming her spot in the underground.
Her European family’s influence on her musical style was apparent on her debut track, but the true catalyst for the CRUNCHi project was, in true fashion, an LA afters event. After a performance from her husband, HEKLER, Trym took the decks and control of an energetic crowd in Los Angeles. Among the fateful attendees was none other than CRUNCHi, who was immediately captivated by the music.
“Watching Trym perform and seeing the culture and scene in a way I never have made me want to do it myself,” CRUNCHi shared. “I asked my husband if he could teach me how to DJ and produce. While doing that, I was also building my connections within the industry,” she continued. “Fast forward to 2023, and I land my first gig as direct support for GRAVEDGR for his final stop on his tour.”
Today, CRUNCHi’s passion for hard music and its community shines as bright as ever. “Hard dance and hard techno mean power and freedom to me. There’s something powerful about being in a room full of people from different backgrounds all connected by the same energy,” she told EDM Identity.
I think we’re only seeing the beginning of hard music’s growth in America… My hope is that hard music continues to evolve while maintaining the underground spirit that made so many people fall in love with it in the first place.
CRUNCHiLooking ahead into the distant future, she believes that fans will see “more crossover between hard techno, bass music, and other electronic genres, which will help introduce new fans to the CRUNCHi sound.” In her words, there’s more room for innovation, and the next generation of artists — CRUNCHi included — isn’t afraid to experiment and have fun.

The project thrives on blending different genres and styles into unexpected fusions. Fans can expect her to continue crunching genres together, whether hard techno, hard dance, hard psy, schranz, or bass music.
I’ve been focused on developing a sound that feels both aggressive and emotional, while still bringing the energy people expect from a CRUNCHi set. There will be new releases, unreleased IDs, collaborations, and most excitingly right now, I’m finishing up my first EP that I can’t wait to share with you guys very soon!
CRUNCHiAbove all else, CRUNCHi will continue to push creatively by taking more chances with her project. While evolution is a key aspect of her growth, she aims to remain true to what made her fall in love with dance music: “creating moments that make people feel something and completely lose themselves on the dance floor.”
These moments begin right now as CRUNCHi stopped by to spin up a banging guest mix for her debut on our hard dance mix series, Paradigm Shift! For a little over 30 minutes, listeners are introduced to her eclectic world. This sonic journey takes fans on a ride across the musical spectrum with stops in hard bounce, hardstyle, hard psy, and even bass music.
Among the stacked tracklist, fans will find a plethora of unreleased records, including two of her latest collaborations: “KRUNCH” with KUMERA and “RAGE BAIT” with HEKLER. This mix rounds out with some of the best the scene has to offer, including Nico Moreno, Yosuf, BELPHË, and so much more!
What I love most is that hard music allows people to fully let go and vibe. The music is intense, but there’s also a sense of community and belonging that comes with it when we’re all together in dark rooms listening to hard music.
