Dave Navarro Hints That Jane’s Addiction Are Over: “I Am Gutted That Things Ended This Way”

On the heels of Jane’s Addiction canceling their tour following an onstage physical altercation between bandmates, guitarist Dave Navarro has hinted that the legendary alt-rock band is over. The revelation comes via a new Instagram post in which Navarro laments, “I am gutted that things ended this way.”

Last Friday (September 13th), singer Perry Farrell shoved and punched Navarro onstage during a show in Boston. As the frontman was being pulled off the guitarist, it appeared that bassist Eric Avery landed a few punches on Farrell. The incident resulted in Jane’s Addiction canceling the remainder of their tour with Love and Rockets. A statement from Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins cited Farrell’s erratic behavior and “mental health difficulties,” while Farrell himself apologized to Navarro and the band’s fans.

On Wednesday (September 18th), in the wake of the tour cancellation, Jane’s Addiction released the new single “True Love.” Now, it appears as if it may be the band’s swan song.

“New Jane’s Addiction track released today, ‘True Love.’ I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live,” wrote Navarro late Wednesday night via Instagram.

He continued, “I’d also like to publicly apologize to our crew, @crawlersband and their crew and to @loveandrocketsofficial and their crew. Thanks for being our travel companions for as long as you did. I am gutted that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result. May all of our hearts mend together.”

The suggestion that fans may never hear the new song live intimates that Jane’s Addiction have essentially broken up, although no official word has come from the band. It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve called it quits during their tumultuous career, having previously broken up at the height of their fame in 1991.

Adding insult to injury, this recent tour had marked the first time in 14 years that Jane’s Addiction featured all four classic members of the band: Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins.
