Dawn Richard details new album, Creole Culture

Creole Culture follows Richard's 2019 album New Breed and 2021's Second Line, completing a triptych that sees Richard portray herself as King Creole to rebuild her hometown of New Orleans in her image. New single "enough" follows previous single “baby, can we?" featuring Durand Burnarr. Richard explains that "enough" is about “unlearning the lie that your value has to be earned,” adding: “Sometimes the greatest act of resistance is believing you were always worthy.” The album draws from elements of Richard’s heritage as a Black and Native American woman. She worked with co-executive producer Katalyst, the Inglewood-based collective founded by drummer Greg Paul, whose members have collaborated with Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Solange and Anderson .Paak. “Collaborating with Katalyst on the album has been a natural extension of my artistic journey,” says Richard. “Together, we’re creating music that honors multiple genres while aiming to push the culture forward.” Creole Culture also includes guest appearances from Big Freedia, Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, and Tarriona “Tank” Ball.
