Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox makes live return as Atlas Sound for first show in seven years, debuts new material

Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox has revived his Atlas Sound project for its first show in seven years, debuting eight new songs during the performance. Performing solo on the festival’s Transcendental Stage, he sang while playing bass, hand bells and a sampler throughout a roughly half-hour set. He opened the show by leading the crowd in a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for his mother Edie, who was in attendance and celebrating her 80th birthday, and he also thanked Making Time founder Dave P for encouraging him to return to the stage. “Thank you to Dave for having me because if it weren’t for him, I might’ve stayed at home for another seven years,” Cox told the audience.
