Djrum's elegantly introspective Under Tangled Silence was one of the best electronic albums of last year. He's following it up next month with I Wander, a new EP designed as one standalone piece of music but also divided into six tracks.
"What’s the difference between a song, a track, a work, a piece?" Djrum writes. "I am interested in playing with these distinctions…I Wander can be digested in bitesize chunks, or taken as a whole. Each track tells a different story on their own, but taken as a whole, a different narrative is revealed."
Intriguing! The first preview we're getting from I Wander is "I Wander (IV + V)," the only track on the EP to include two segments of the piece. It flows together so well that I'm not sure why it's labeled as two separate movements, though there's certainly a change in tone as the track moves along. The combination of frenetic beats and meditative piano in the opening moments here is sublime. Listen below.
