We caught up with Dr Donk ahead of his US debut at Wasteland Festival to discuss ZAAGSTEP, reflect on his origins, and so much more! In the rich history of hard dance music, few artists can claim that they’ve pioneered a new genre. Among this rare breed is none other than German producer Dr Donk. For years, he’s built a loyal, cult-like following as one of uptempo’s most unique live acts. This has helped him take his music international, to the stages like Defqon.1 Weekend Festival, Tomorrowland, and Intents Festival, just to name a few. Over the past year, however, Dr Donk has quietly been building the foundation for hard dance’s evolution: ZAAGSTEP. This new genre is the collision of zaag, dubstep, and drum and bass. It’s the exact definition of pushing genre boundaries. Despite its short history, Dr Donk has already taken ZAAGSTEP to the prestigious stages of Rampage Open Air and Parookaville.
