Drone folk artist Kin Hana details new album, Howling World

Howling World follows years of Hodges releasing music as Longshoreman and playing various instruments with psych-folk band Nighttime, with the title track arriving as the first preview of the album. Speaking about "Howling World", Hodges says: "This song came out of René Magritte's painting Young Girl Eating a Bird. I was drawn to the contradiction in the image — she seems to be turning away from the world while at the same time literally devouring a piece of it. There's something wild and irrational about the act that I felt I understood without being able to fully explain. The 'howling world' became both the senseless world she's turning away from and the one she's suddenly part of." Howling World combines singer-songwriter composition with doom metal and post-rock, drawing inspiration from Jason Molina and the films of Béla Tarr. The album began coming together in 2020, with Hodges initially intending for it to be his "version of a Pink Moon-style record".
