Edie Brickell, Matt Chamberlain, Kaveh Rastegar, & Mason Stoops Announce Debut Album As World Famous Pets

2 hours ago 5

A month ago, legendary singer-songwriter Edie Brickell unveiled a new supergroup called World Famous Pets, which sees her teaming with some of the most accomplished journeyman players in the music industry: Matt Chamberlain on drums, Kaveh Rastegar on bass, and Mason Stoops on guitar. They released debut single "Maybe Somehow" when announcing their existence to the world, and today they're sharing a second song to go along with the details of their self-titled debut album.

The record is dropping in September. It'll have "I Guess It's You," today's new single, a richly emotive folk-pop song with a skip in its step. All the players sound like the pros they are, but Stoops' ever-shifting guitar work stands out; he's virtuosic but not showy, tasteful but not afraid to poke and prod at the music's smooth exterior when needed. Brickell, too, remains the kind of songbird whose melodies sound lovely even when the lyrics indicate a shrug like they do here.
