Elton John Talks Fatherhood with Andy Cohen: ‘It’s the Greatest Gift’

6 days ago 8

On a new episode of Radio Andy’s “Andy Cohen Live,” Elton John talked to Andy Cohen about why he decided to stop touring and what being a dad means to him.

“As a new gay dad, it meant so much to me that you two reached out to me right after the birth of my son,” Andy — whose first child, Benjamin, was born in 2019 — told Elton, who shares two sons (Zachary and Elijah) with husband David Furnish.

When asked what being a “later-in-life dad” means to him, Elton said it’s the greatest thing he’s ever done.

“For me personally, I’ve had an amazing life, great career, incredible achievements, music, blah, blah, blah,” he explained. “But I would say that our sons and David are the most important things to me.”

Elton also revealed that he chose to stop touring to spend “the latter part of [his] life being there” for his family.

“I think anyone who is gay that brings up a child deserves applause because there’s so many people that say, ‘It shouldn’t happen.’ Well, of course, it should happen. I’m sure you’ve been a great dad,” Elton said to Andy. “I’m sure Anderson [Cooper]’s a great dad. And for all the people out there who are gay and have their own children, it’s the greatest gift you could possibly have.”

He added, “I’ve never had a better gift in my life, and I wouldn’t swap it for anything.”

“Andy Cohen Live” airs weekdays at 10am ET/PT, only on Radio Andy (Ch. 102) and anytime on the SiriusXM app.
