Empire of the Sun Embark on A New Dawn with ‘Ask That God’

**Electonic pop icons Empire of the Sun are back with a new adventure in the form of their fourth studio album, Ask That God.**

Empire of the Sun have delighted audiences with their anthemic songs and bold theatrics for almost two decades. The global sensation found widespread success with the release of their 2007 album, Walking On A Dream. Featuring the iconic singles “We Are The People” and the title track, “Walking On A Dream,” the effort propelled the act into the spotlight, receiving prominent remixes and a sample on Wiz Khalifa’s “The Thrill.”

The electronic duo, comprised of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, have continued to churn out alternative electronic tunes while creating an immersive dreamscape through their live performances, music videos, and subsequent album releases. Creating the characters Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore, the pair have weaved a world in which the lines of reality and fantasy become blurred.

Empire of the Sun’s fourth full-length album, Ask That God, continues the story of Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore as they unfold the wisdom gathered on their sonic pilgrimage throughout the 12 tracks. It comes eight years after their last LP release, Two Vines. Empyreans (as their fans are known) were overjoyed by the announcement of their return with the single “Changes.”

The catchy, synth-heavy track welcomes the beginning of a new era for Empire of the Sun. Accompanied by an otherworldly music video, the song delights with its ’80s pop sound, which is present throughout many tracks on the album. “The Feeling You Get,” for instance, exudes a nostalgic essence with an ’80s dance-break interlude.

“Cherry Blossom” feels quintessential and is likely to become a fan favorite thanks to Steele’s vocals taking the driver’s seat, while “AEIOU” has already found success since being released last October. A collaboration with Pnau, who shares a member with Empire of the Sun, it’s a dancefloor-ready groover with a thumping bassline that draws you in from the moment the lyrics come in.

While the first half of the album’s danceable tracks are on brand for the duo, the latter half of the album features a few slower songs that are a departure from what fans are used to. “Rhapsodize” twinkles with animal sounds and an oriental influence, and “Friends I Know” closes out the album with Steele and Littlemore bidding Emperyeans adieu in somewhat of a bedtime song.

‘Ask That God’ is an album we searched for and were thankfully blessed with. We are nothing more than conduits, gathering experience and finding what is meant for the Empire to find.
