Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert, who was recently arrested on attempted murder charges for apparently running over singer Brendan Yates’ 79-year-old father William with a car, is claiming “self defense” for his actions.
According to the Baltimore Banner, Ebert told a district court commissioner, “I’m sorry, but this is pure self-defense. I was straight-up attacked.” He insisted that surveillance camera footage would prove his innocence.
In addition to second-degree attempted murder, Ebert is also facing a charge of first-degree assault. He was arrested and booked by Montgomery County Police last week.
Ebert also called William Yates a “maniac” for throwing a rock at his car. Video surveillance reportedly shows Ebert driving a Buick LeSabre right at William, and striking him, with William telling authorities that Ebert yelled that the elder Yates “deserved it.”
Turnstile released a statement last week, reading in part, “Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.”
The statement continued, “This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady.”
Turnstile will perform their first show since Ebert’s arrest this Friday, April 10th, at the Coachella festival.
