First and Ten – Week One

Ten takeaways from the opening weekend of Big Ten Football. You can follow along all season on SiriusXM Big Ten Radio (Ch. 372). MAC ATTACK The Big Ten continued its run over MAC teams on opening weekend even though it got a little dicey in Michigan’s controversial win over Western Michigan. But Ohio State handled Ball State easily, Nebraska took down Ohio 49-21 while Michigan State disposed of Toledo. And yes Northern Illinois is now a member of the Mountain West but were still a MAC team when their game was scheduled against Iowa, with the Hawkeyes winning easily 40-0. BUT WAIT A MINUTE….. While overall the conference had its way with the MAC, there was one huge exception in UMASS going to Piscataway and taking down Rutgers 37-21. This is a UMASS team that went 0-12 a year ago and had not beaten an FBS opponent since 2023. Not sure of any coach can be put on the hot seat after just one weak, but Greg Schiano is definitely feeling the heat early in 2026.
