Upon stepping into Beyond Wonderland, you’re transported to a peculiar world beaming with endless corners to explore. Curious characters roam about, encouraging you to interact with them. The stages all beckon with their unique designs — my personal favorite was Cheshire Woods with its towering trees and pillars. Lights and lanterns drape over the whole festival, adding a final cohesive element. There’s always something to uncover, and this festival takes the cake as one of Insomniac’s most immersive experiences.

Insomniac always has a few tricks up its sleeve during Beyond Wonderland, but this year, I was pleasantly surprised. A brief fireworks show surrounded the venue at midnight, an echo of the iconic EDC Las Vegas fireworks that ravers look forward to each year. Many attendees stopped in their tracks to take in the views, and it really was an awe-inspiring moment. I hope that Insomniac incorporates this mini show into future events.
Other eye-catching astonishments included a drone show over the Mad Hatter’s Castle and even attending the Mad Tea Party itself among recognizable characters from Alice in Wonderland. My group and I even stumbled upon a secret garden and stage, which served as a welcome escape from the chaos. Pro-tip: If you see a wall of colorful doors and hear knocking, you’re going to want to open it. Insomniac infused even more oddities and surprises than when I last attended five years ago, and that left a lasting impression.

I always love a good sidequest whenever I need a break from the music or want to switch up my environment. Beyond Wonderland had no shortage of adventures for you and your friends to embark on, no matter how big or small. From gazing at the countless art installations to conquering rides, playing games, or checking out different activations, among other activities, there were plenty of chances to sidequest away from the main mission. Sometimes the best festival sidequests are the ones that expose us to new sights or sounds we’ve never experienced before, so always make it a point to let loose from your schedule at times and see where the night takes you.

Whether you were craving a dose of techno, house, hardstyle, trance, dubstep, or big room, Beyond Wonderland boasted a sonically diverse roster to cater to fans. On the bass front, artists like ATLiens, Sullivan King, LAYZ, Deathpact, ARMNHMR, and GRiZ delivered the utmost vibes for headbangers. Marie Vaunt, Lilly Palmer, Novah, Nico Moreno, and TRYM, among others, blasted satisfying servings of techno at Cheshire Woods and The Looking Glass.
Queen’s Domain offered nonstop heavy hitters throughout the weekend, featuring mavens like Alison Wonderland, Steve Angello, Zedd, Deorro, and even a trance set from legend Tiësto. There’s no doubt that Insomniac will always bring together some of the scene’s top talent while representing a wide array of sounds, and Beyond Wonderland 2026 was no exception.

Although crowds felt significantly denser than in years prior, almost everyone I encountered moved through the festival with kindness. With a new generation of ravers taking shape, crowds can definitely be hit or miss in terms of PLUR. At this Beyond Wonderland, though, I was pleased by the levels of “excuse me” and plain respect I witnessed among fellow festivalgoers. Beyond Wonderland SoCal reminded me that although faces have come and gone in the scene over the years, PLUR continues to thrive and remain a core mantra at the heart of dance music.
