Flavor Flav Helps US Paralympian Raise Money for Parents to Attend Paris Games

The Paris Olympics may have come to a close, but Flavor Flav isn’t done doing his part to support Team USA — this time for the Paralympic Games. The Public Enemy co-founder recently used his social media reach to help sprinter Nick Mayhugh raise enough money to bring his parents to Paris.

“Imagine spending 18 years taking ya kid to every practice and game and working 2-3 jobs to buy equipment,” Flavor Flav wrote while retweeting Mayhugh’s post asking for contributions to his GoFundMe, “and then not being able to watch them play the biggest game of they life.”

Mayhugh reached his goal within one day of Flavor Flav calling upon his fans for support. Paris will be Mayhugh’s second Paralympics after his parents couldn’t attend the Tokyo Games due to the pandemic. He won three gold medals in Tokyo, including the 100m and 200m T37 classification races.

In another post, Flavor Flav said he and his Twitter community helped “fully fund 35 @gofundme campaigns for Olympians and paralympians.” He also paid Team USA discus thrower Veronica Fraley’s rent after she tweeted about struggling to make ends meet.

This all came after Flavor Flav threw his financial support behind the US women’s water polo team. He’s since signed a five-year sponsorship deal for the men’s and women’s water polo teams and was a fixture in Paris cheering them on. The rapper also had a custom bronze clock made for US gymnast Jordan Chiles after she was stripped of her bronze medal.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games start on August 28th and will run through September 8th. After that, Flavor Flavor will play a string of upcoming shows with Public Enemy, including Riot Fest and Oakland’s Hip-Hop 101 festival. Get tickets here.
