Geezer Butler has shared the plans that Ozzy Osbourne has for the final Black Sabbath performance.
Rumours about the possibility of a one-off reunion show from the band have been swirling in recent months. Earlier this year, Osbourne shared that he would “jump at the chance” to play a final Black Sabbath show with co-founding drummer Bill Ward.
Butler – the former Black Sabbath bassist – also revealed earlier this year that he and Osbourne have “agreed” to play one last show. Now, during a recent conversation with Lifeminute, Butler revealed that he remains in contact with the ailing singer and said: “Ozzy was talking to me about, when he does his farewell concert – which he still wants to do – He’s dying to still get out there and play, and he suggested, at his very final concert, for the four of us to get up onstage and maybe do three or four songs together. And that would be it, finished.”
The bassist noted that the potential show would be a “one-off” and not any kind of Black Sabbath reunion, adding: “Definitely no more tours.”
Back in May, Osbourne reflected on the band’s final climactic show at the Birmingham arena in 2017 during an episode of his podcast The Madhouse Chronicles, sharing that he was “sad” that Ward was not there. The drummer had parted ways with the metal legends in 2012, due to what he claimed was an “unreasonable contract”.
The ‘Mr. Crowley’ singer shared that he felt that Black Sabbath are “unfinished”, adding: “If they wanted to do one more gig with Bill, I would jump at the chance. Do you know what would be cool? If we went to a club or somewhere unannounced and we just got up and did it. We started up in a club.”
That same month, the Prince Of Darkness’ wife and manager, Sharon, said Ozzy was planning “two more shows to say goodbye” before he fully retires.
Ward took to his official X/Twitter account to share that he was open to performing with Black Sabbath for a final show, tweeting: “I’m in for playing some of everyone’s old favourites. Loved playing them then, I’d love to play them one last time.”
Guitarist Tommy Iommi has also expressed interest in performing with the band for one last show, saying it would be “a nice thing to do, but whether it happens will be another thing”.
Last November, Ozzy addressed his declining health and shared that he might have to “accept the fact” that a live comeback would potentially not be possible due to issues such as his battle with Parkinson’s disease and recovery from multiple surgeries.
“I’m taking it one day at a time, and if I can perform again, I will,” he told Rolling Stone UK at the time. “But it’s been like saying farewell to the best relationship of my life.
In other news, Butler recently reacted to Aston Villa FC debuting its new Black Sabbath football kit, calling it a “dream come true”.
