‘Helldivers 2’ players complaining about new updates

Helldivers 2 is a live-service game, meaning it gets constant changes. Some of these the fans deem good, and others, like the recent nerfing of fire weapons, they’re not so keen on.

As reported by Metro, many Helldivers 2 fans are expressing their annoyance at the game’s latest update: Escalation Of Freedom. This update adds new missions, new enemy types, and even a new difficulty level even harder than Helldiver. While more to do in the game should be a good thing, the issue is with nerfs that the developers have imposed on some of the game’s most-used weapons.

The SG-225IE Breaker Incendiary, arguably the most-popular weapon for taking on the Terminids, has had its magazine count reduced from six to four and has also had its recoil increased. It already ate ammo like nobodies business, so this change is going to slow players down significantly.

The developers have also “adjusted flame effects to work more realistically.” Players have worked out that this means fire no longer penetrates armour the same way it used to, making weapons like the Flamethower, Breaker Incendiary, and Incendiary Anti-Personal Mines less effective against the tough Chargers.

This seems odd, as the game’s latest warbond, Freedom’s Flame, released today, adds a host of new fire weapons, and now it seems like there’s little reason to unlock them.

Since August 6, over 2,000 negative reviews have been posted compared to around 1,000 positive ones. “They have nerfed the weapons that are most effective and in doing so have nerfed the fun out of this game,” reads one review.

However, it should be noted that the current and previous updates have also worked to increasing the power of a lot of the lesser used stratagems. Many have had armour piercing effects added to make them more useful against strong opponents, and the 120mm HE Orbital Barrage has had its cooldown reduced from 240 seconds to 180.

The update has also brought a lot of players back to the game, as its recent peak sits at around 62,000 compared to just 35,000 last week.

In other news, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is now coming to Xbox after almost a year on PlayStation and PC.
