Horsepower! Horsepower! All this Polo on, I got Horsepower! Sorry. That's not what this blog post is about. It's just what I get stuck in my head whenever I see the word "Horsepower." This particular blog post is about Charlotte Weinman, the Brooklyn-based indie rock musician who records under the name Horsepower. She doesn't sound anything like 2 Chainz. Last year, Weinman released her self-titled debut Horsepower EP. Earlier this year, she followed it with "Force Quit," a single that she co-produced with Model/Actriz’s Ruben Radlauer. Later this fall, she'll release another EP, this one called Happiest Day Of My Life. The lead single is a dreamy, contemplative fuzz-pop number with the rhetorical-question title "Do you think you can live without dying every day?" I love a big crescendo, and this song has a bunch of them. In a press release, Weinman says:"Do you think you can live without dying every day?" is a song about struggling to decipher my own behavior, feeling so dislocated from my emotions that I can't tell if I'm having any fun or not, and being unable to level a reality of mistreatment with a reality of love.
