"It's unsustainable for us not to be on that platform": Sylvan Esso return to Spotify after a year of boycotting

In a to-camera post earlier today on Instagram, Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso explained that, while it's felt really good for her band's music to be off Spotify for a year, it's also been incredibly hard in ways they hadn't predicted. "It's become more and more apparent that if we are going to continue to employ everyone that we employ it is unsustainable for us not to be on that platform, so we are going to put it [our music] back up on there," she said. Meath went on to explain that her and her bandmate/husband Nick Sanborn's political views haven't changed. "I don't fucking like it and I'm really frustrated by this reality," she went on, ending by thanking fans that stuck by them when they left the platform, despite 82% of streaming happening through Spotify. The post's caption read, "You can still listen and support independent places like @bandcamp, @qobuz, @subvertworld, and of course your favorite local record stores." Sylvan Esso released their fifth album, Ow ∞, just last week via the Psychic Hotline label after debuting on Partisan back in 2014.
