Jason Momoa Is Unimpressed by Blocky World of Fantasy in Minecraft Movie Trailer: Watch

The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie has arrived with its vision of a blocky world of fantasy, but star Jason Momoa is decidedly unimpressed by it all. Watch the clip below.

In the trailer, Momoa’s Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison is pulled into the Overworld alongside a misfit group of Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks), and can only get home with the help of an expert crafter named Steve, played by Jack Black.

“Anything you can dream about here, you can make,” Black says while introducing himself. Instead of expressing relief, Momoa and his crew respond with disdain. “This guy is such a toolbag,” Myers blurts out.

The video game adaptation was directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) from a screenplay penned by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. Jennifer Coolidge will also appear.

For those who are uninitiated, the massively popular Minecraft launched in 2011, setting players in a blocky, algorithmically-generated world, where they can mine resources to create structures that are only limited by one’s imagination.

A Minecraft Movie lands in theaters on April 4th, 2025.
