Jess Williamson has a voice. The Texan singer-songwriter is capable of a doing incredible things with a full-body gut wail that contains just a hint of high-lonesome yip. This isn't exactly news if you've ever spent any time listening to her, but it really comes through on her new song "Hum Of The City." Williamson is a couple of days away from releasing A Mile South Of Heaven, the new album that she recorded with producer Shooter Jennings, and she just adopted a highway for album-promotion purposes. We posted the early singles "Goodbye To All That" and "Tracking The Tropics," and they're great. But she really goes off on "Hum Of The City," a mythic country ramble that's completely built around her enormous voice. In a press release, she says:I'm kind of a wanderer by nature, and this song is about my complicated relationship with the idea of home.
