John Travolta, once a chart-topping singer in his own right, put in an extremely random appearance on Sunday night, hosting a Hollywood Forever Cemetery celebration for the Ramones' 50th anniversary and introducing Cretin Famiily, a brand-new punk supergroup that features Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Rancid's Tim Armstrong (no relation), Blink-182's Travis Barker, and onetime Ramones member CJ Ramone. John Travolta and the Ramones didn't exactly exist within the same '70s New York pop culture universe, but last night's show was presented alongside a double feature of Brian DePalma's 1976 movie Carrie, which starred Travolta as one of the high-school bullies, and Propeller One-Way Night Coach, the new movie that Travolta directed and wrote, based on his own 1997 children's novel. Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone is buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and Travolta and Johnny's widow Linda introduced the whole program.
