Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon surprised viewers with a parody of Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open” on the Monday night (November 18th) episode of The Tonight Show.
Hamm was the evening’s guest, and following a commercial break, Fallon prompted the video with a bizarre question: “Do you remember when we used to be Creed?”
“Of course I remember, we were the lead singer of the band Creed,” Hamm replied nonchalantly, to which Fallon replied: “We did that one music video together on the Scottish glen.”
As the two slip into a flashback sequence, we see Hamm dressed as Scott Stapp from the “With Arms Wide Open” video. And shortly thereafter, Fallon appears — also as Scott Stapp from the “With Arms Wide Open” video — and the two begin to duet the iconic track (one of Consequence‘s 50 Greatest Post-Grunge Songs of All Time).
The campy face-morphing and AI rendering make for a hilariously uncomfortable watch as the two Stapps sing to one another atop the glen, even caressing at one point. Hamm and Fallon are close enough with their Stapp vocal impersonations, if a bit exaggerated with the singer’s affectations. All in all, it’s probably the best Creed parody to hit network television since MadTV’s “You Sound Like Me” sketch from the early 2000s.
The Fallon parody drops amidst Creed’s “Are You Ready?” North American tour, which extends through a December 5th show in Orlando, Florida. After that, the band plays three New Year’s Eve gigs with Sevendust, including one in Durant, Oklahoma, and two in Las Vegas. You can pick up tickets to Creed’s upcoming tour dates here.
