Jonathan Majors and a co-star fell through a window while filming a new action movie that’s being backed by Ben Shapiro‘s The Daily Wire and Dallas Sonnier’s Bonfire Legend.
On April 3rd, Deadline revealed footage of Majors and co–star JC Kilcoyne accidentally falling through a window in the midst of filming a scene.
In the widely circulated clip, both actors stumble backwards into window glass before actually falling through it and out of the frame. Crew members then rush in to check that the two are okay, followed by someone (seemingly Majors) wondering if the camera was rolling so that the footage could be used.
According to Deadline, the incident happened “after the window was replaced with an unsecured sheet of tempered glass to be purposefully shattered in a later stunt that did not involve any actors.”
Majors and his Kilcoyne fell six feet to the ground, and the latter needed stitches in his hands as a result of his injuries.
Speaking to Variety, Kilcoyne’s team revealed that the actor is “doing well and was taken care of immediately by production,” as well as clarifying that he “did not feel unsafe on set and continued to have a positive experience working on the project.”
The incident reportedly was the final straw for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees to call a strike against the film, which is being shot under the tentative title Knuckles, on March 26th. Initially, the union tried to sign a contract with the production team to secure payment of the union’s health and pension funds, but safety concerns over the last five weeks of production made things get much more serious.
According to reports, Majors and Kilcoyne’s mishap was an inciting incident that officially launched the strike and caused crew members to walk off. Other incidents include props falling onto the crew and a rigged tree branch hitting the set medic.
Producers for the film denied the allegations in a statement, saying to Deadline that they “don’t negotiate with communists.”
