“Knife Party Cooking” First New Music in Five Years, Duo Share

Knife Party have shared in no uncertain terms that they’ve got new music on the way.

Leave it to Knife Party to tease new music via current pop culture references. The duo once virtually synonymous with electro house have piggybacked on a viral meme to share that they will soon release their first new music in five years.

Shared on X, the meme template in question consists of a widely reposted photo of Choe Dae-Han, who won seventh place in the 2024 Olympics’ Shooting 10 Meter Air Rifle Men, and Yusuf Dikeç, who tied for second place in the same competition but grew famous for his casual posture. Over the former, Knife Party superimposed the words “Bass Music 2024.” Over the latter, they put “Knife Party Cooking…” adopting slang that wasn’t even widely used five years ago.

Topical content like this has been a part of the Knife Party brand since the very beginning. Consisting of Gareth McGrillen and Rob Swire of the Australian drum and bass act Pendulum, their 2011 debut EP, 100% No Modern Talking, included the inescapable track “Internet Friends.” In it, a robotic female voice laments over somebody blocking her on Facebook, the social media platform du jour at the time.

Other successful Knife Party singles over the years include “Bonfire,” “Resistance,” “PLUR Police,” and “Battle Sirens.” Their most recent release was the EP Lost Souls, which arrived in full in July 2019.

It remains to be seen what creative direction McGrillen and Swire took while working on their new material. If the meme is any indication, it’s bass music — and they seem to feel strongly about how it will land compared to other electronic music falling into that category in 2024.

Knife Party have not shared official release dates or any other information for their upcoming music at the time of writing.
