While he has yet to cancel any shows, Kompany has shared that he has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

Kompany is adjusting to a new normal. The Los Angeles bass music DJ and producer recently got candid with his fans, sharing that he’s currently struggling with kidney disease. What this means for his tour life recorded music output remains to be seen.

In an Instagram post, Kompany (real name Kyle Hagberg) brought fans up to speed on his trials and tribulations. “I’ve been quiet across my socials lately and I wanted to address why,” he wrote. “I was recently diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and it’s taken a pretty big toll on me physically and mentally.”

Hagberg elaborated that he has “an idea now of what’s been going on” and is able to “do a better job of taking care of it,” but he admitted finding it difficult “adjusting to this new reality.” He wrote, “Music has always been my passion and my outlet, and while I’m still here creating and playing shows, I may need to slow down at times.”

Kidney disease occurs when the kidneys are damaged and can no longer filter blood properly, causing a buildup of waste in the body. As a result, those who suffer from it can experience conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, or depression.

Hagberg first tried his hand at DJing in 2011 after seeing Skrillex perform at SoCal music festival HARD Summer. An Icon Collective graduate, he gained early traction thanks to his G-Rex collaborations “Sice” and “After All” in 2016, going on to release heavily on tastemaker label Never Say Die in the years that followed.

Closing out his statement with a teachable moment, Hagberg implored his fans to look after their own health. He wrote, “Please, let my experience be a reminder: take care of yourselves. Get checked up, listen to your body, and don’t ignore things that feel ‘off.’ Health is everything, and I want each of you to be around for a long time.”
