As Killers Do follows three previous albums released on Sub Pop as the first to land on Neale's own label imprint, Consensual Sound, and is her fourth collection of songs made in collaboration with producer and accompanist Guy Blakeslee. On lead single "Slip Away", Neale's omnichord comes together with psychedelic-inspired guitar from Blakeslee as Neale considers feelings of impermanence. "We act as little gods," she says, "Assuming great import. All that we build, create, collect and become, to be taken away. We are not gods. The only consolation I have in a world of megalomaniac billionaires and sociopathic leaders. They all will die. We all will die. The Earth will go on." As Killers Do was recorded in the kitchen of an Echo Park bungalow with a Tascam cassette 8-track, staying within the duo's commitment to minimalism and home recording. The album features ten songs for a combined twenty-eight minutes, with sounds of 1960s girl group harmonies, folk, and proto-punk as Neale grows out of a debilitating anxiety and into someone grounded within a more hopeful perspective.
