Line Of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has given an update on the future of the show.
The BBC series wrapped up after six seasons in 2021, but many fans were left disappointed when it was revealed that bumbling DSI Ian Buckells turned out to be the crooked cop known as H.
It came as an anti-climax to many viewers, who were expecting a more believable character to be the criminal mastermind.
There were rumours that the show would return for a special three part series but so far it hasn’t come to fruition.
Despite that, Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings in the show, has suggested a new series could now be in the pipeline.
When asked if the show could make a return, he told Times Radio: “I hope so. [It] looks like it [will]. All the signals and everything is kind of, you know, [positive] but as somebody said, until the script hits the desk you can’t be 100 per cent sure.
“So we’re all hoping that someone somewhere will make an announcement and say, ‘Yes, it’s happening.’ And we can all take it from there. I can tell you one thing… the day they announce it, it’s going to burn up the internet.”
It comes after Dunbar recently reunited with his co-stars Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, for a rickshaw ride around London.
In a clip posted to Instagram by Compston, who played DI Steve Arnott in the hit police drama, the trio were seen laughing hysterically while dancing and singing along to Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’ and ‘Shackles (Praise You)’ by Mary Mary.
“We’re back!” Compston is seen saying before McClure adds: “Hi everyone, we just needed a ride to a restaurant.”
Dunbar then said he was just “trying to keep it together” so these “two young people can get home tonight”.
