Lil Nas X has shared the pulsating new track ‘Light Again’ – watch the video for it below.

Initially, the song was released in the form of a one-off SoundCloud upload in March, with Lil Nas X admitting he would “probably gonna get in trouble” for sharing it before apologising to his record label, Columbia, on X/Twitter.

Now, to herald the beginning of his ‘Dreamboy’ era – the rapper has also shared an Andrew Donoho-directed music video alongside the track, with visuals inspired by the hedonism of a ‘Project X’ house party.

On the song, which features production by Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, he sings: “You know I gotta catch my flight / You know I gotta reach new heights again / You know we run it up at night / You know we only get one life for this”.

Before he premiered the new single, the rapper took to social media to share that “for so long ive [sic] tried to make every song get as much attention as possible. due to my fear of everyone saying I’m a flop or feeling like less.”

He added: “This time around I’m choosing my vision. do i hope my songs do well? YESS but they are coming regardless and I’m standing behind them !!”

Back in January, he dropped his first ever gospel song, ‘J Christ’, which received backlash from the Christian community. The cover art for ‘J Christ’ saw Nas X being hoisted up on a cross, similar to the narrative of Jesus’ crucifixion, and many said it was a “mockery of Christ”, having also got the stamp of approval from the Church of Satan.

In response, the ‘Rodeo’ star said it was “depressing” to see the negativity surrounding the song. Likewise, when he recently teased the new ‘Dreamboy’ project, the rapper quickly came under fire for allegedly plagiarising Sega Bodega’s artwork.

Sega Bodega reacts to Lil Nas X using him as a reference for new era artwork:

Bodega (real name Salvador Navarrete) took to X/Twitter to point out the similarities between the ‘dreamboy’ artwork and the artwork for Navarrete’s 2021 single, ‘Angel On My Shoulder’, suggesting that Lil Nas X may have plagiarised his work.

“Not even trying to put a spin on it is where I’m like yeesh”, Navarrete wrote. When one fan acknowledged that Lil Nas X had posted an Instagram story earlier that day showing Navarrete’s artwork as a reference (but with no explicit credits), Navarrete responded: “‘Look he did credit you in a photo that will disappear in 24 hours forever and no name whatsoever of artist or photographer! Be grateful!’ You lot sound insane.”

Elsewhere, the ‘Old Town Road’ singer clapped back at Azealia Banks for saying he “fell off” and said “bitch has NO BARS”.
