Lockimara – “Every Day”

1 hour ago 2

Nicholas Gay, the musician who records swirly acoustic-electronic music under the name Lockimara, is currently living in New York, pursuing a master's degree in music production, after stints in Vancouver and Toronto. Later this month, he'll release his sophomore album Only Sun, Only Moon, and he caught our attention with the single "Tastes Like." Today, he shares another one called "Every Day." It's a skittery, twee folk song that's been warped and refracted in some fascinating ways. Here's what he says about it:

This song is maybe the most indicative of where I am as an artist. I wrote all of these intricate melodies and lines to try to make the guitar chords sound as euphoric as they did in my head, only to end up literally reversing, slowing down, and chopping up every single one until they were not only unrecognizable, but also melancholic and surreal. It seems like no matter how happy or momentous I try to make my music, the melodies I will always resonate with are more restrained and conflicted. The lyrics to this song are similar. Initially about expressing love and gratitude for my relationships, they landed somewhere closer to love, gratitude, and disappointment.
