Looks like we're getting the first taste of a new Dream Theater album pretty soon! The band took to social media earlier this morning to post a brief teaser captioned with "Vanishing at sunrise…" and yes, everyone is losing their minds. The new music will be Dream Theater's first with founding drummer and vocalist Mike Portnoy since Black Clouds & Silver Linings in 2009.
New music coming soon would also make sense considering Dream Theater is kicking off their 40th anniversary tour on October 20 at The O2 Arena in London. What better way to drum up interest for a tour than with some new music? Douby so considering it's with Portnoy.
On how the new music sounds, Portnoy recently revealed to Brazil's Marcelo Vieira and Matheus Ribeiro that it picks up right where Black Clouds left off.
"If I'm being honest, I think it picks up right where Black Clouds left off, to be honest. There's a certain style that the five of us have when we write together. And if you listen to the album with this lineup from 1999, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory, through 2009's Black Clouds & Silver Linings, if you look at that string of five or six albums, that's the sound and style of these five people. So, I think that's a good indication of what you can expect with the new Dream Theater album. It definitely sounds like classic Dream Theater."
