M83 announces tenth album, I Wrote You A Letter

Following 2023's Fantasy, I Wrote You A Letter was written from demos that Gonzalez started putting together in the summer of 2024, growing from a desire to rediscover the immediacy of M83's earliest work, which was largely built from bedroom recordings, imperfections, and a greater sense of creative freedom. Opener "Blister Sunrise" lands today as the first preview of the album. "This record reflects my state of mind over the past few years," Gonzalez says. "I'm deeply disillusioned by the world we're living in. I wanted something less calculated, more spontaneous. More punk, in a way." Tracing through different eras of M73, I Wrote You A Letter also marks the return of producer, composer and collaborator Benoît de Villeneuve, whose history with M83 goes back to Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts. Gonzalez also invited Jean-Philippe Talaga — M83's first designer and the founder of Goom, the label that first released the band — to create the artwork.
