The dark folk artist Marissa Nadler first met Stephen Brodsky, frontman of the heavy Boston bands Cave In and Mutoid Man, at Saint Vitus, the Brooklyn metal enclave that finally just reopened at a new location. Back in 2019, they released the collaborative album Droneflower and toured together. Now, it looks like they're back and they're using Droneflower as their band name.Marissa Nadler released the solo album New Radiations last year. A couple of months ago, she teamed up with old collaborator Milky Burgess to cover Buddy Killen. Today, Nadler got back together with Stephen Brodsky and with Shearwater's Emily Lee, who played keyboard for her and Brodsky when they toured together, to release two more tracks under the Droneflower name.Nadler takes the lead on the glassy, eerie, occasionally heavy hymn "Sky Burial," the longer of the two tracks on the new two-song single Burials, while Brodsky adds angry peals of echo-drenched guitar. Brodsky stands in as prime vocalist on the much shorter "Drive It In," which sounds enough like Father John Misty that I briefly wondered if I'd unmuted a tab.
