Mastodon Announce Vinyl Pressed With Mastodon Fossils

Every Mastodon record has Mastodon on it, but the new pressing of Marrow Deep has mastodon in it. The Atlanta metal legends have announced a new version of their latest album featuring actual mastodon fossils. The records, which will be limited of 170 copies, were pressed at Waxworks Records with help from the University of Georgia's geology department, using "bone dust" created by grinding down a bag of fossilized mastodon teeth the band received as a gift more than two decades ago."Twenty-plus years ago we were gifted a massive bag of mastodon teeth," Troy Sanders explains in a video about the project. His bandmate Brann Dailor continues, "It's not like we had this pristine mastodon tooth fossil that was ready for a display case. It was kind of like, 'What are we going to do with these teeth? We'd love to do something with them.' And Troy had the idea to at some point put them into a record, and how cool would that be?"Sanders then chimes in, "We've been wanting to do this for twentysomething years, do something super artful, artistic.
