Matt Berninger Shares New Surprise EP Type It Up

Over the summer, the National frontman Matt Berninger released the magnificently titled new solo track "Martini Me Fatso." Though arriving in the long tail of last year's excellent Get Sunk, it seemed to exist outside of the frame of the album cycle, and now we know it was part of a new EP that seems like it will stand as a capstone on this era. Released by surprise today, Type It Up includes "Martini Me Fatso," the new originals "Type It Up" and "Ask For Water," and the previously released covers of New Order's "Blue Monday" and the Velvet Underground's "Who Loves The Sun."Here's Berninger with a backstory:These songs came out of the momentum and energy of the Get Sunk tour. I was changing lyrics and forms night after night, and we were getting real time feedback from audiences and social media comments. On the song "Type It Up" (originally titled "Black Letter Font"), people were mishearing the lyric, "That would look good in a black letter font" as "I would look good in a black leather thong," so I decided to swap the chorus.
