The mighty Metallica came to the rescue after a fire destroyed the main stage of the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium threatened to cancel the EDM gathering just a couple days before it was set to kick off. The legendary metal band lent the fest its stage that was in storage in between European legs on its ongoing “M72 World Tour.”
As previously reported, the elaborate main stage for Tomorrowland was decimated in a massive fire on Wednesday (July 16th), with the fest set to kick off on Friday (July 18th) featuring EDM heavyweights like Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Deadmau5, and others throughout the three-day weekend.
Metallica’s set, featuring a giant wall of video screens, was being stored in Austria and was airlifted to Belgium overnight, as reported by Belgian news outlet HLN, and the festival miraculously kicked off without a hitch on Friday.
Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, who performed on Friday, posted a photo of himself with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich on Instagram prior to his set, and wrote, “I can not believe I’m actually typing this… but my set at Tomorrowland is still happening! Massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible @tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles — and to @Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts.”
Metallica, who landed three LPs on Consequence‘s recent list of the 75 Best Metal Albums of All Time, embarked on a European leg of their “M72 World Tour” back in 2024, and will revisit the continent for another leg in 2026 (tickets available here).
