Mildred – “Bird Laugh”

Back in April, the Oakland alt-country band Mildred released their new album Fenceline. If you're into the booming cottage industry that is 2020s slacker twang, you'll want to hear it. Mildred play with an easygoing looseness, even as lightweight melancholia hangs over everything, and their rotation of four singer-songwriters drawls with a tender melodic touch. Imagine if Friendship sounded a good deal more country and a bit less depressed, and you'd be in the ballpark.

This week Mildred returned with the new single "Bird Laugh." This one's lyrics were penned by Jack Schrott, who explains:

Wrote this song after a tour on the west coast. I was thinking about a snow storm we got stuck in. I think the song is about resigning yourself to something. Some things you can’t fight, like snow falling. And sometimes the things you resign yourself to are the most beautiful things, like snow.
